Top Gear’s back on Sunday
Top Gear is back with Series 20, starting this coming Sunday (30th June). The British are already the most watched nation on Earth, with some 4.2 million CCTV cameras monitoring our every move. Now it looks as though the same cameras could be used to log journey details. Leaked Downing Street papers have revealed Metropolitan Police plans to use real-time access to London’s Congestion Charge automatic number plate recognition data.
There could be as many as 486,000 vehicles with a false mileage on the road in the UK, according to vehicle history experts, HPI. The act of “clocking” a vehicle has been around for a number of years and is something that was made easier with the arrival of digital odometers. In the past, the mis-aligned digits and exposed screw heads meant that a clocked car was relatively easy to spot.
